Akili is now listed on Nasdaq [AKLI]
When we founded Akili over a decade ago, medicine needed a change, especially for patients with mental & cognitive health issues. Medicine has rarely, if ever, felt like it was designed with patient experiences in mind. We believed that medicine could be more than a pill, and we were determined to fundamentally change how medicines are designed, delivered and experienced by patients.
Over the past ten years, we built a company to make that change. We designed treatments to directly target cognitive issues instead of masking symptoms. We invested in developing fully digital, interactive and enjoyable software as a delivery vehicle for those treatments. And we invested to define and execute the gold-standard for clinical evidence validation in digital medicine. We realized our initial vision and made history when we introduced the first ever FDA-cleared / CE-marked prescription video game treatment. Patients are now starting to use medicine that feels like a consumer entertainment product.
We believe cognitive function is the next frontier of medicine and is more important now than ever. We will continue to trailblaze the development of digital therapies to improve cognitive health. With every product, our design ethos remains the same: to engage, immerse, challenge and deliver amazing experiences to patients that will profoundly change their quality of life. We’ve started in children with ADHD and are committed to helping all who can benefit. We know families are actively looking for more options, unsatisfied with the status quo which is today essentially limited to medication. That is what drives us.
As we celebrate this milestone in Akili’s history and become a publicly-traded company (Nasdaq: AKLI) I am honored and excited to lead our team into our next chapter. As a public company, we can improve the lives of patients at an even greater scale, expanding on the work we’ve begun to help solve the cognitive issues that are one of the biggest unmet needs of this decade. We will continue our fight to break down the barriers that still exist, so that medical innovations aren’t limited to the few families that are fortunate enough to live in a certain zip code or be employed by companies with top-tier benefits.
I’m proud of and grateful for the Akilians who have helped us get to this point by working tirelessly toward our goals. I’m grateful for my co-founders, Akili’s current and previous Board, our advisors, investors, and partners who have unendingly supported the importance of what we’re building and rose above the complacency that can plague innovation. And most importantly, I’m grateful for all of our patients and their caregivers who we have humbly served so far, and the many, many more we hope to delight in the near future.
While we’ve made great progress, medicine still needs a major change. We will continue to lead it.
As we like to say: Get ready, because it’s time to Play Your Medicine!
